Macau will this month present in Portugal the Deepened Cooperation Zone, created together with Guangdong province, to showcase investment opportunities, the Chief Executive said today
“This is a new zone for Portugal and, therefore, we will have many representatives and officials from the Deepened Cooperation Zone between Guangdong and Macau to take part in the visit,” he began by saying in a question and answer session in the Legislative Assembly Ho Iat Seng, who will be in the country between 18 and 22 April “with a large delegation of businesspeople.
Through “promotional meetings, visits and business trips,” Portugal will have “the opportunity to gain a general understanding of the latest situation and opportunities in Macau and the Cooperation Zone,” he continued.
Ho was responding to deputy Wu Chou Kit, who asked the local government leader how to promote investment from Lusophone countries in this special region.
For the official, these visits express “an opportunity to bring the Lusophone countries, especially Portugal, to invest” there, besides allowing “deepening Macau’s role” as a bridge between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.
In addition to the free movement of capital, another of the advantages of the cooperation zone, for attracting companies and investment, is the policy of exemption and suspension of taxes on goods, whose entry into the entire Chinese market, of more than 1.4 billion people, will be facilitated.
The special area on Hengqin Island also hosts, since 2011, the Science and Industrial Park of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Guangdong-Macao Cooperation.
