Twenty Portuguese students receive ‘Ambassador of China’ Scholarship 2025Twenty Portuguese students were honoured last Saturday with the ‘Ambassador of China’ Scholarship 2025, during a ceremony held at the Chinese Embassy in Portugal.

The scholarship was created in 2023 with the aim of encouraging Portuguese students to study Chinese language and culture.

Zhao Bentang, China’s ambassador to Portugal, said in his speech that the cultivation of talent and humanistic exchanges are important pillars of Sino-Portuguese friendly relations. ‘With the deepening of the Sino-Portuguese comprehensive strategic partnership, Chinese language teaching is thriving in Portugal, and more and more young Portuguese are devoting themselves to learning Chinese, understanding China and the world with their love of Chinese language and culture.’

‘We hope that more outstanding young students will come forward on the broad stage of exchange and co-operation between China and Portugal, and we also hope that more and more insightful people will continue to contribute to Sino-Portuguese educational co-operation with wisdom and strength,’ he added.

This year’s ‘Ambassador of China’ scholarships also include the ‘Contribution to Sino-Portuguese Educational Exchange Award’. Several rectors of Portuguese universities, including the University of Lisbon and the University of Coimbra, as well as headmasters and educators from local public schools, received the awards.
