China's ambassador to Portugal, Zhao Bentang, in an interview with CNN on June 2, said that "there are ideas" from companies such as car manufacturer BYD to "invest in Portugal."

This visit was seen as a valuable educational and pre-professional opportunity for the students of the University of Évora's School of Arts, further strengthening cultural and academic ties between Portugal and China.

Chinese electric cars are widely seen as among the most economical alternative to current models, but China’s goal is more than just selling electric vehicles to the European market; it wants to invest in Portugal’s market and collaborate in the international market, especially the European one.
