The Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce and and Industry (CCILC) is committed to attracting Portuguese investment to Macau and Hengqin, said Carlos Cid Álvares, president of the chamber’s Macau delegation.

Álvares noted that there is significant competition among the cities in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), but Macau has the potential to serve as a platform for businesses between Portuguese-speaking countries and China, as reported by TDM Radio Macau.

“We are working closely with IPIM (Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute) in line with the government’s objectives of promoting economic diversification and attracting foreign direct investment from Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries to Macau and Hengqin, based on the 1+4 strategy set by the Macau Government,” said Carlos Cid Álvares at a networking event held by CCILC on Tuesday evening.

Álvares, who is also the CEO of BNU, added that the chamber of commerce is developing contacts overseas in the Portuguese-speaking world to inform businesses about the SAR, the neighbouring In-depth Cooperation Zone, and the Greater Bay Area.

“We are proactively establishing channels with chambers of commerce and Lusophone authorities to acquaint them with the opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.”

CCILC was founded in 1978 in Lisbon, bringing together the main companies involved in business relations between China and Portugal. The Macau delegation was established in 1992.
