On the last night of November 5th, the 9th Portugal-China Gala took place at Casino Estoril, in a clear demonstration of proximity in the context of bilateral relations between Portugal and China.
After the initial cocktail, the President of CCILC, António Noronha, welcomed the dinner, also mentioning in his speech, the evident benefits that accrue to all parties when relations are punctuated by dialogue and economic growth, which was precisely the theme of this edition of the Gala.
The session began with a speech by Pascal Coppens , sinologist, entrepreneur and expert on the topic of China’s economy, giving a very incisive presentation on the reality of China’s development over the last 30 years. Pascal touched on topics as diverse as technology, creativity, resources, and the social characteristics of the Chinese population, giving some perspectives on the country’s future.
With dinner already served, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Bentang , recognized the contribution that CCILC has been making to bilateral relations, and alluded to the economic vitality between both markets, drawing attention to the need for continued cooperation not only between Portugal and China, but also between the various blocs of nations at an international level.
The entities that most contributed to strengthening economic ties were then distinguished with the attribution of Business Merit Awards. For the 2024 edition, 7 categories were defined and 8 awards were awarded:

This was followed by the intervention of the Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira, Secretary of State for the Economy, who highlighted the need for continued economic cooperation between Portugal and China, enabling dialogue and progress on various matters of mutual interest.
Special note for the posthumous tribute that CCILC paid to Mr. Wu Zhiwei (received by his wife Mrs. Lao), a figure who has been very important in recent years not only for this Chamber, but also for bilateral relations between Portugal and China, supporting a series of initiatives between both parties and helping businesspeople and entities involved in the Portugal-China universe.
