Xi Jinping, who participated in a symposium on the five-year economic plan to be launched by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on Monday night next year, said that “China must be prepared for the challenge” in the face of “the winds each increasingly contrary in the external environment, ”according to the official Xinhua news agency.

The Chinese President stressed that “it is necessary to establish a new pattern of development”, that has the internal market “as a base” and that allows the internal and external markets to “strengthen”.

“The domestic market will dominate the national economic cycle in the future,” he said, quoted by Xinhua.

Xi Jinping said he believed that the covid-19 pandemic is accelerating “unprecedented changes in a century” and that China should “seize the opportunities” that arise.

China will therefore try to grow through “independent” scientific and technological innovation and invest in “the development of essential technologies as soon as possible”.

Regarding diplomacy, the Chinese head of state indicated that China “will make its status continue to rise in the world economy”.

The Asian country faces a protracted trade and technology war with the United States, as the Donald Trump administration seeks to reduce interdependence between the two largest economies in the world and stem the Asian country’s rise.

The European Union also recently said that China has not made the expected advances since the last summit in 2019 to reduce barriers to accessing its market, which affects Europe, the Asian country’s largest foreign investor and trading partner.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 809 deaths and infected more than 23,4 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
