The Chinese Transport Ministry has approved the opening of links to Macau and Hong Kong from the Pazhou Ferry Terminal, according to a statement published on the website of the Office for Hong Kong and Macau Affairs of the State Council.

The terminal building, which is near the Guangzhou Fair Complex, is still under construction, with no date yet set for the inaugural trip. The first phase of construction is budgeted at almost 400 million yuan and covers an area of about 8,500 square meters.

In the initial phase, the terminal will operate with two boats with a capacity of 260 passengers (with 60 seats in first class). In addition to the connection to Macau (which should have the airport as its destination), connections will be established to Hong Kong’s airport, with the possibility of passengers checking in while still in Guangzhou and obtaining boarding tickets for their flights. The connection to Hong Kong airport will have an estimated duration of two hours.

The second phase of construction will include an exhibition and convention tower. Guangzhou authorities are planning to open river connections from the Pazhou Terminal to other cities in the Greater Bay Area, including Zhuhai.
