As part of the official visit of the Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region to Europe, the promotional activity “Feel Macau Without Limits – Promoting Macau in Lisbon” is being held in Lisbon from April 15 to 22. This is the first tourism promotion activity in Europe after the pandemic to showcase Macau’s new tourism elements, seeking to attract Portuguese and European visitors to Macau as part of efforts to further expand international visitor markets and promote the recovery of tourism and the economy.

Organized by the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO), “Feeling Macau Without Limits – Promoting Macau in Lisbon” features several highlights, including “Feeling Macau Without Limits – Macau Exhibition in Lisbon,” for visitors to learn about the latest situation of Macau’s tourism, culture, economy, trade, and other elements. A video mapping show will be held at the same venue as the exhibition, with the aim of showing the diversity of what Macau has to offer. During the promotion, MGTO will organize a familiarization visit for a delegation of Macau tourism operators to tourism projects in Portugal. In conjunction with the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), MGTO will hold an Economic, Trade and Tourism Promotion Session in Lisbon. In addition, it will also participate in the Press Conference on the Announcement of High Collaboration between the World Tourism Organization and the Global Tourism Economy Forum.

DST, in collaboration with the Lisbon City Council and the Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural will hold “Feel Macau Without Limits – Macau Exhibition in Lisbon” and the video mapping show, which will be officially opened on April 19 (Lisbon time), at Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, but pre-launched on April 15, to allow local people to experience beforehand.

Transforming containers into exhibition displays as an attraction

Focusing on Macau’s tourism elements, several exhibition areas and thematic installations will be set up for the promotion to showcase Macau’s tourism image at Commerce Square. IPIM and the Cultural Affairs Bureau have also been invited, along with the six major integrated tourism and leisure enterprises in Macau to set up the displays. The promotion adopts refurbished containers as displays, and different colorful elements have been introduced. Through translucent and refracted light design, the displays create a light effect of various colors to show the vibrant atmosphere of Macau.

Elements of “tourism +” in the video mapping show

From April 15th to 22nd (Lisbon time), video mapping shows will be displayed four times a night at Lisbon’s Praça do Comércio. The design concept of the video mapping show is divided into four chapters, aiming to show Lisbon residents the elements of “Meeting of Chinese and Portuguese cultures”, “Heritage and Gastronomy”, “Deepening the intersectoral integration of ‘Turismo+'”, “Implementation of the “1+4″ strategy for the development of appropriate diversification”, inviting the public to participate in a dazzling light projection experience.

Relaunching the exchange between Macau and Portugal operators

Taking the opportunity of the mega tourism promotion in Lisbon, MGTO will organize a familiarization visit to tourism projects in Portugal for a delegation of Macau tour operators, and participate in the press conference on the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF). During the visit to Portugal, the MGTO and the delegation of tour operators will participate in the Economic, Trade and Tourism Promotion Session in Lisbon on 19 April, organized by IPIM, to introduce the advantages of Macau tourism to the Portuguese tourism authorities, representatives of the tourism industry and media, so that business people from both sides can communicate and negotiate, expanding the business opportunities of tourism cooperation between Macau and Portugal. On the other hand, the GTEF Secretariat and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) will hold a press conference on April 21st in Lisbon, where they will announce the upgrade of the quality of the cooperation between the WTO and the GTEF. On the occasion there will be the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the WTOT and the Global Tourism Economics Research Center, the organizing entity of the GTEF.

DST will also disseminate information to publicize “Feeling Macau Without Limits – Promoting Macau in Lisbon” on social media as part of efforts to expand Macau’s international visitor market.
